about

This album is all about Corona and the impact of the measures taken to beat it. As a social worker Gert got to see the undercurrent of what those measures bring about especially to the socially weaker people and it is not a pretty sight. In the past period he saw people collapse on the continuous non-perspective of never being able to get up again. He saw people hopefully trying to do their best to make things bearable. He witnessed people taking refuge in rebellion. He saw people practicing altruism to the most honourable meaning of the word. And he watched all that hope being crushed like a walnut.

Volume one focusses on the first part of the crisis as we watch society slowly deteriorate. People scattered. Hopes crushed. Opposites highlighted. All the tracks were made during this period. All tracks started out as a bass-scape but this time more synths were added.

This Is the ambient outfit of Gert De Meester from the township of Battel (A suburb of Mechelen, Belgium, at the confluence of three rivers). Gert’s musical outlet always represented a very diverse palette of musical genres. Starting as a Bass player for Rock, Thrash, Funk, Pop bands, like there are: The Hindu Needle Trick and The Seven Laws of Woo, while on the other hand creating electronic music under aliases as The Mental Attack and Reverend Basstorius' Intergalactic Funk Experience, Gert started to experiment more with ambient as Distant Fires Burning. In 2007 Beginning as a pure electronic project, it soon became clear that Distant Fires Burning was the vehicle for the very personal outings of Gert. Re-enter the Bass guitar as it’s an instrument that is very close to Gert, but this time enhanced and manipulated to create a unique and personal sound.
